Biography

A native of Miami, FL, David Ramos is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Wind Conducting from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant with the Frost Band Department. Previously, Ramos served as the Director of Bands at Bradford High School in Starke, FL. 

 

Ramos is an active conductor and clinician in the wind band world. Recently, Ramos was selected as a Conducting Fellow for the 2025 Midwest Reynolds Conducting Institute. In July 2025, he led the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" in rehearsal and performance as part of their annual Conductors Workshop. In 2024, Ramos was selected as a semifinalist for the Frederick Fennell International Conducting Competition in Modica, Italy, and led the United States Air Force Band in rehearsal and performance as part of the NBA Young Composer / Conductor Mentor Project. While in Miami, Ramos has served as a clinician for several high school and middle school band programs in South Florida and maintains a private studio for saxophone students.

 

Ramos's research focuses on the wind music of Cuban composers and diverse programming for high school bands. He has several publications with the Florida Music Director and has presented research at the IGEB International Wind Music Conference, NAfME Biennial Music Research and Teacher Education Conference, CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference, FMEA Professional Development Conference, and several graduate and undergraduate research conferences.

Ramos received his Master of Music in Wind Conducting from the University of Miami, and Bachelor of Music Education degree, with a specialization in Special Music Education, from Florida State University. His primary conducting teachers and mentors are Dr. Michael Hancock, Dr. Robert Carnochan, Gary Green, and Richard Clary. He holds professional memberships with the Collegiate Band Directors National Association, National Band Association, National Association for Music Education, Florida Music Education Association, and Florida Bandmasters Association. Additional memberships include Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
